How to Create Positive Mental Habits

When you’re caught up in the business of your world, it can be easy to slip into a negative mindset. The little things stick to you like a piece of pesky gum on the bottom of your shoe, and before you know it you’ve forgotten your worth. It’s time to remember.

The journey to self love is a long one - its not straight forward and it's not always easy, but it is the most worthwhile journey you can take. There’s no one-size-fits-all, band-aid solution, but here are a list of positive habits that can act as the building blocks to loving yourself.

Replace your apologies

Have you ever bumped into a piece of furniture and said sorry? Or been told you apologise too much so apologised again? Apologies aren’t inherently negative - if you bump into someone or make a mistake, a "sorry" is well and truly due. However, we often use our apologies as a way to undermine ourselves - we apologise merely for existing.

So how do we fix it? Swap your "sorry" for "thank you". Thank you for listening to me complain, thank you for waiting, thank you for being there for me, thank you for complimenting me. Not only will you start to feel more confident, but you will also start to create an attitude of gratitude, which is an incredibly positive asset.

Get into nature

Take a spontaneous dip at your nearest beach, roll down a hill, hike through the trees, climb a mountain - get back to nature! A study performed at the University of East Anglia cites the benefits of getting outdoors to include a reduce in the risk of type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, premature death, preterm birth, stress, and high blood pressure. Not to mention the mental health benefits - fresh air the ultimate stress reliever, especially if you are usually living or working in the busy city.

Romanticise yourself

It’s time to fall in love with yourself! I’m talking about taking yourself on a coffee date and not feeling guilty about getting some cake too, buy yourself a ticket to that movie you’ve been wanting to see, write a love letter addressed to yourself, buy some flowers - the list goes on. Be the romantic comedy style lover you always dreamed of!

Journal

Journaling for just 10 minutes a day is one of the most potent practises you can include in your positivity handbook. Manifest your future, reflect on the past and cut the crap from your present. Try it, and thank me later.

Come back to basics

At the end of it all, a healthy body creates a healthy mind. Let's strip it back to basics - eating and sleeping. Prioritise having a full 8 hours of sleep per nigh - cut out screen time, exercise before bed, rub lavender oil under your pillow case, whatever you need to do to make it happen. Regular infrared sauna sessions also help to improve the quality of your sleep. Now to ours insides... eat well! Nourish your body and mind with plenty of fruit, veg and healthy grains.

Finally...

Remember:

You are loved.

You are worthy.

You are strong.
